Here's to hoping Buzzard Billy's recovers from the flood and re-opens! It was a cornerstone of the court avenue district and it would be a shame if it didn't have a presence down there.
Even though I usually get the same things here, you just cant beat either the Mean Green or Jamaican Jerk chicken sandwiches. Good stuff. The patio in the summer is the best in Des Moines.
Great Cajun food in Des Moines! The shrimp Poboy is excellent! Great atmosphere and a good selection of beer on tap. Their patio is great in the summer!
One of our favorite places to eat. Good food, fun atmosphere. Portions are large. Cajun food makes the place unique. Only down side... desserts are seasonal.
LOVE their food. The lower level seems kinda dingy but it is very fun and the pastas are outstanding! PS: I get the Angler's Trio every time and it has never disappointed.
I have to say that the food here is nothing to write home about but the staff was friendly. The waitress came out right away and took our order, and was very good about checking on us without being overbering. They have aligator meat which I know is a trademark for this resturant, but it tasted like chicken to me. There food is only mediocre. On the other hand they are experts in the cocktail arts. very very good bartenders! It is a fun place that I would feel comfortable taking children too also!
I ate there last night and had a good time. The staff was friendly when we came in and seated us immediately. The waitress came out right away and took our order, and came by frequently to check on us. The food was nothing spectacular, but the service more than made up for what the food lacked. When we were about ready she offered the check and a box for the leftovers. When we left we got to the car and I realized I forgot the food box, and the waitress ran out to the car to give it to me, and it was raining! I have never had a waitress do that before, and I offered to give her an extra tip just for it, but she refused and ran back in to the restaurant. The best service I have had in a Des Moines restaurant!
Awesome food...great service
Love the cajun combo plate and their blacken shrimp! I've never been down south to true cajun country, so my review might be stronger than someone who has had that experience. Really enjoy the patio (especially now that they've done some work on it) but the service out there always seems to suffer a bit. Overall a very fun and reasonably priced place to go.
It wasn't super impressive, but we had a good time. It was a nice relaxed atmosphere. We ate in the lower level, but passing through, the patio area looked really nice. The monster cheese sticks were great - they were huge! Nice staff, good drinks. On your birthday, if you've already signed up for their birthday club, bring three people with you and you get your entree, non-alcoholoic drink, and dessert for free! Can't beat that. All in all a decent place. We'd go again.
Cajun food always sounds like a good idea, and probably would be in more capable hands, but this restaurant is never as impressive as I want it to be. It goes in my "might as well eat at Applebee's" category.
Slow service. Patio has potential to be an amazing summer hangout, but it's dirty. Dirty glassware, dirty bartenders, dirty tables, etc.
