they need a little work here. i will eat a burrito here, hammered beyond belief, and i can still tell that is sucks. that's not good. at 2am, as drunk as it gets, pretty much everything tastes good. how do you screw up a burrito?

I am giving it a 3 because i have had a tasty burrito or two at this place. it is just badly missing the consistency. You shouldn't have to "roll the dice" when you want a burrito.

The ONLY authentic mexican on the west side. Truly amazing.

I have yet to find a better burrito in the metro Des Moines area then El Rey. The passion they put into their ingredients appears to be the difference between the posers and this place. The sauces are made in house from whole chilies (I saw it one day), the beef is actual Mexican braised beef and not ground hamburger. Their chicken is flavorful rather then bland and dry like many places.

The steak and potato burrito is a bit different but delicious, even if a once it was a tad dry.

Best of all, they are open late and I can get a glass of horcheta to cool the burn.
