We spend way too much time at El Mariaci. Their food is good. Authentic mexican (I think?). We keep going back because the service is so great. The food is out fast - even when they are busy. The wait staff is extremely friendly to our kids. They know them by name and get them what they want right away. Anyone with kids knows this goes a long way!!! Lalo is our favorite waiter! But they are all really good.
The best Pinche Mexican restaurant in Des Moines.
Next time you go to El Mariachi ask For "LALO" he will hook you up witt a free shot of Tequila, might be the cheap stuff but still bloody good with lime and salt.
my fav Dish is "BURRITO CALIFORNIA" SOOOO good.
Hasta la pasta!
I just love this place!! I go there pretty frequently and must say that their food is very good and the price isn't too high. The chips that they serve you are not the best, but like previously mentioned the salsa kind of makes up for the chips. I would recommend this place to anyone. The atmosphere is great, the staff is nice, and most importantly the food is awesome!! Gotta give it a try!!
The 1 star is for the amount of food, and nothing else.
I work in the area and thought I would give this place a try for lunch the other day. I ordered three tacos with a side of Pico. Not a meal demanding the most expert of culinary arts. Somehow, they managed to make a complete mess of it. I do like the idea of them offering chips/salsa on all take out orders, neat idea that I think a lot of these sit down "authentic" Mexican joints should adopt. However, the chips were so stale they hurt to eat - glad I didn't throw them away though, I needed something to wash the taste of those tacos out of my mouth. The hard shells were soaked completely through with grease that remained from the unseasoned meat. You can find a much better meal, value included, by hitting up your local "roach coach".
I will not be visiting el mariachi again.
Great for a quick lunch. I've been here for lunch 5-10 times and the service is always great. Some dishes lack flavor, though...
If this is the best Mexican in the Des Moines area (as suggested by the reviews I read before going), I would suggest not eating Mexican in Des Moines. The food is plentiful and moderately priced, but is your basic bland, overcooked food that was popular in California in the 1970s. There are many regional cuisines in Mexico. Those styles can be found within the U.S., and they use fresh ingredients, herbs & spice, and are cooked to a balance of crisp vegatables/medium meat. This was a cut above Taco Bell, but not much.
We always eat at least one lunch here when visiting family. Very good and very nice (large) size portions for lunch. Especially good are the chicken chimichangas and the queso blanco dip with tortilla chips.
Great food, great service, we love it, usually go there a couple times a week.
I think this is the best mexican restaurant around!! I have traveled all over the US and Mexico and I still think El Mariachi is the best. I go there about once a week. I recommend the Tacos Carne Asada or Huevos Chorizo. Also they have the best margaritas in town.
A converted Hardee's in Johnston that serves up consistantly good chicken chimichanga's. This is all my family and I get there so I can't speak to the rest of the menu. The chips are so, so, but the salsa has just the right blend with a cilantro kick that makes up for the chips. The place is clean and the service incredibly quick and polite. Worth a try.
Great food-alot like El Rodeo's
Good service
Okay atmosphere
Guacamole is really good
Get the California burrito Its covered in salsa, some white sauce, and guacamole. So it looks like Mexican flag
