Food was nasty and overpriced.
We moved away 10+ years ago but always come here when back in the area. We live in the Lake Okoboji area now and nothing anywhere remotely compares! Good prices, nice people and consistently excellent quality food.
910/5/09 We have visited the Jade Garden many times over the years. Never have I been disappointed with the food or the service. The egg rolls are like no others. The egg drop soup is great. The service has always been prompt and friendly.
We've given this place several chances to impress us, but they continue to disappoint, so we've decided it's time to find a different chinese restaurant to patronize. Each time we've been there the service has been extremely slow. Our last visit we waited 20 minutes before anyone waited on us (we had to ask for someone to wait on us) and it was 45 minutes before our food came. On a different occassion, we tried to order carry out from Jade Garden and were told we could not order from the kids menu for carryout. We were told they do not have to-go containers for a kids meal. Give me a break! The food is decent, but not worth the headache.
It's been almost a year since I wrote about Jade Garden.
I'm sorry that tenacious e had a bad experience there. Chinese food is about the hardest thing to rate because there are so many different styles, So many personal tastes. And I agree that many chinese restaraunts are inconsistent.
I love chinese food, But I don't go for it nearly as often as I did ten or twenty years ago. That said, I still believe that the mu shu at Jade Garden is a bargain. The egg rolls are marginal, And the potstickers blow. Having worked in So. San Francisco for about eight years, I have a true appreciation for good chinese. t e, Try Shanghai in Waukee!
You guys are way too easy to please! Inspired by your posts, we ordered the rangoons, General Tso's Chicken, and Beef Orange for take out. Meh, it was ok. While some like their General Tso's Chicken unbreaded, it surprised me and I've enjoyed the same dish better at just about every Chinese restaurant I've ever been to. The beef was pretty good, but not that great. The rangoons were excellent, with more filling than what you might usually find at their competitors.
Speaking of their competitors, we usually order take out from Panda Garden, which in my opinion is better. The problem with Panda Garden though is that it's quality is inconsistent. When you order the sweet and sour pork, sometimes you can tell the pork has been just sitting around forever. Other times, it is delicious. Also, sometimes their chicken is undercooked, other times it is spot on. We always enjoy their Mongolian Beef. When Panda Garden's food is spot on, it tastes way better than what we ordered last night at Jade Garden (except for the Rangoons, which were creamier and tastier than what you get at Panda Garden). Just my two cents.
My fiance and I love this place. Their mandarin beef and egg rolls are to die for. Their service is excellent and agree that this is the best place in town for Chinese food. Their carryout option is also good for great food on the go!
If you are a fan of mu shu, you should check this place out. I have been checking out various establishments and have found theirs to be a bargain. My wife and I can usually get three or four meals out of one order of mu shu chicken here. Their plum sauce is loaded with flavor. Awesome!
A great place to eat, in Ankeny service at resturaunts is horrible and Jade Garden is a great respite from that. Low prices and friendly staff. Say hi to George the owner he is almost always there.
Jade Garden has a relaxing and friendly atmosphere, the typical Ankeny "reputation" is not sensed in this business. The waiters serve you almost hand and foot. The food: offers a big list menu and great taste for minimal price. The egg rolls are by far the best egg rolls I've ever tasted and the volcano platters have become a family tradition to order.
This restaurant deserves anyone's business; the service is quick, clean, and inviting to all people.
Long time Ankeny restaurant.
We get it carry out several times a month and have had no complaints. Very quick place for lunch. Eating in: Nice atmosphere inside, feels upscale for fastfood chinese prices.
The mandarin beef is the best! Very tender with great sauce.
