I, too, have had only positive experiences at Cazador in Ankeny and look forward to eating there again this weel.
I was quite shocked at the negative reviews of this restaurant...and the similarities of the tone of them. We have been patrons of Cazador's since 2001/2002, eating there about every other week. We find their food to be tastey, nicely presented and portions generous. We've NEVER had a rude waiter, never seen an employee with a testy attitude or received poor service. And, most of the time, the owner, Jesus Rodriguez, is there greeting customers and checking on tables and he's always pleasant, as are the rest of his family that also work there. I can ever imagine any of them being directly rude to a customer or asking them to leave. Come on.... Food is consistently good, salsa varies a little but that's okay, makes you realize they make it daily!
If I could take away stars for this restaraunt, I would. The previous posts were eerily similar to our experience. My husband and I had previously enjoyed our visits here and purposely drove to Ankeny from Des Moines on a Friday night to go here. I made the mistake of asking for a sauce substitution and the waiter got unduly annoyed about it. My husband went the easy route and just ordered "number 39". When our food arrived they brought my food without ingredients and him a "number 38". When we told them it was the wrong plate they disappeared for well over 10 minutes. The owner/manager came to our table and informed us that we were being difficult. We were flabbergasted! Then he asked us if we were telling the TRUTH about ordering "# 39". We told him we were so offended that he was calling us liars and asked him what motivation we would have to say we ordered something we did not. Meanwhile, the table next to us said they had heard us order the "#39". We prepared to pay for what we had recieved and leave when the owner physically put his hand on my husband's shoulder and forced him to remain seated in the booth. (Assault?) He then told us "we are cooking your 39 now, we do not want to lose 2 meals". And we informed him he had just PERMANENTLY lost 2 customers. He said he was happy for that and there were plenty more places in town to eat at. I have to say, I think he was drunk or something. Is it possible that a manager could be this irrational? I will NEVER go here again and I used to be a waitress so I do have much compassion for what servers go through. Tell anyone you know that Cazador might be money down the drain....
I came here to get independent opinions of Cazador. And I got what I was looking for. But I HAVE to say to \"Dr. Tom\" --- please, please, PLEASE tell me you\'re not the one responsible for teaching your children to write!
I gave the place three stars because you can't post w/out giving a rating.
i think that this is a very good family owned business.. they have a very good vibe everytime i go the food is great and drinks are amazing especially the cadillac margarita. the prices are very good also must i say. i have been taking my family their for many years now and not once been unhappy. for the person that wrote that the manager is rude you must have gone to the wrong place. i see him everytime i go in and he is nothing but smiles and handshakes..so you must have been the rude people not him. overall if you have not been to cazador of ankeny you need to make a trip.. i would try during a week night weekends are very busy!
This is the best Mexican place in Ankeny, which really isn't saying much. But still....you can find great fajitas and margaritas here, along with chips and salsa and walk away pleasantly stuffed. The chicken fajitas are fantastic.
Is it just me, or do those last four reviews seem awfully suspect? All worded very similarly. Maybe the same dinner party? One is obviously the same person.
If you had this bad of an experience, then let it be known. Just...only let it be known once per person, please.
Don't waste your time or money eating at this establishment. If you want poor service and to be ignored for all your requests then be my guest. When spoke with the manager he told us to not come back. Wouldn't even if you paid me!!! The owner really should check in on how his establishment is being operated. And the food wasn't all that great, runny salsa and cold fajitas aren't my idea of a good time. Do yourself a favor and go across the street for good mexican food and polite, fast service.
Service was really bad. Asked to speak to the manager and he was rude. He sugested that if we did not like the service that we not come back. Take his advise and save yourself the greif AVOID dissapointment and eat somewhere else.
Save yourself grief and don't eat here. Service is terrible. Manager is rude. We were ignored by our waiter. Were not given things by our waiter we asked for like straws and napkins. After we received our food he never came back to see how our meal was. Had to flag down the hostess to find our waiter to get the things we asked for and more water and salsa and more shells to go with our fajita's. Some other person finally brought these but not the napkins. When complained to the manager about the service was told we got shells with our fajitas we didn't need any more (for a large portion of fajitas we got 2 small shells apiece) and got told by the manager if we didn't like the service to never come back. Very rude, disrespectful manager and waiter. For sure will take managers advice and never go again. Plenty of good restaurants in the area with excelant service to be treated this rudely.
We had never had a problem with Cazador until we tried to get takeout. The order was completely wrong and we were asked to bring the food back. After we did, the manager returned the money and asked us never to come back. We will not ever go back and I would like to recommend never to get takeout. There are way too many restaurants in the area for the customer service to be so extremely rude.
It's easy and cheap to eat here- the wait isn't too bad, the food is pretty good, the margaritas are good, it's all in all a consistently good place to go.
Cazador's has one thing going for it - consistency. You will always find a decent Mexican meal there. Just don't get the fried ice cream. We made that mistake and were served ice cream that had obviously been fried earlier in the day or the day before and then just stuck in the freezer. Awful. They do have a good cheese dip that I haven't found other places.
I hate to disagree but cazadors is not that good. Food is marginal. Drinks are good. But place is hard to get to and prices are high.
The experience was awesome! I actually went there on a class assignment.... to evaluate the experience and the food. The food is good, prices are reasonable, and the employees and owner are VERY awesome!
I live in Ankeny and did not like Mexican food until I ate at Cazador. Their salsa is the bomb! Nothing I have eaten there has been less than excellent.
I normally wouldn't be motivated to rate this place, but a 5 star rating (see Dan) is so off the scale that browsers will be
sadly misled. Cazador in Ankeny is Average at best. Nothing terrible and nothing spectacular...but the prices are reasonable and if you are not a connoisseur of Mexican food
and don't have unreasonable expectations the staff is hospitable and it's better than the chain fast food stuff.
Spectacular Mexican food and brilliant margaritas. A nice stop right off the I-35 exit at 1st St. that's easy to miss if you aren't looking for it. Very comfortable and cozy, but can accommodate large parties pretty easily.
I only wish they served Mexican Cokes!
Try the Trio combination platter! This place has the best salsa ever!
Best chips and queso.
M+mm Mmmmm good
AMES Location: You gotta be pretty good to please me, and they DID!
Queso dip is amazing!
