Southwoods is special in that it will grow on you. Yes it is challenging: rarely an open shot at the pin, fairways that are well, barely fairways, up hills, and around turns. However, once you've played it more than a couple times you begin to like it. Each hole is a certain challenge but don't be discouraged, because I started at Southwoods when I began playing disc golf and still think it is a ton of fun. You WILL get better playing here.

I agree with the previous review, but once you do learn the course, I think it's one the most enjoyable in the Des Moines. Yes it is poorly marked, but I think it's much more challenging than Waterworks or Grandview. Plus it always seems to be less crowded. But beware the rough is really rough and I did get poison ivy once. But on the plus side I have found a "lost" disc almost everytime I have gone out there!

Location of the first tee is confusing if you don't know where it is. Poorly laid out in general (have to walk rather long distances to get to next tee, and again you have to know where the next tee is or else you could be searching for a while). No map of course available. Signs by tees don't show overview of hole, only distance.
