The best bar in Des Moines, hands down. The atmosphere is what makes it...The staff is very accomidating as well.

I agree, it would be nice if they would change it from dance club back to the Lounge it started as, but in true Des Moines fashion after 3months, people didn't support them anymore, they would rather stand in a roped off park and drink keg beer so they had to adapt 2 stay open I guess. I still love the place, great bartenders & wait staff & an awesome style &atmosphere that people feel comfortable in whether in a suit or in jeans.

I'm more comfortable in dive bars, so Aura really isn't my kind of place. That said, I have to give them points for trying something different in Des Moines.
I like the way Aura looks but I don't like the attitude of the patrons or the staff. "Too cool for the room" seems to be the vibe here.
If it wants to be a dance club, fine. The music is certainly loud enough for it. But that last time I went there on a Friday night, there was hardly anyone in the house and you had to shout your lungs out to talk to anyone.
Aura is suffering from a personality disorder. It would be really great if it was more laid back, took the chip off it's shoulder with the reserved table things and dedicated itself to being a really good, adult lounge.
Instead it seems to reformat itself into whatever it thinks will be popular. You don't see sports bar switching up their format all the time, you know?

I love this place! It grew on me and now It's rare I go anywhere else on the rare nights I get out! love the place, the bartenders and the music. Don't care for the drink prices. They are a little steep. It's not like this is Chicago people!

I went to this place the one and only time on my bro's b-day. It's a really nice club but for 11:00 on a Sat night it wasnt exactly bumpin. The drinks were typical and the dress code is the norm. Maybe it was a just a fluke for us, we stayed like 15 minutes then went to Drink.

I went to Aura once, and had a great time. There is a dress code there that can be annoying, but if you take off your jersey and sport a white tee, then you are good to go. The best thing about Aura is that you can Karate Chop martini glasses in half and the staff won't even get angry. The VIP tables are great, but you have to reserve them. I went on a Saturday, so it was very much a dance club. Over all though, it was a fun place to spend a Saturday night on.
I went to Aura for the first time on a trip to Des Moines to see my buddy Derek. Its a really nice place to chill out in, but not a place to converse with people (its loud). We went on a Saturday night so it was busy, it may not be so bad on the weekdays. They have a bunch of cool couches to sit in and booths for VIP's. LCD TV's on the walls are always playing some interesting video. They have a nice bar and nice staff. Their drinks are priced accordingly for the kind of place they are (approx. $7/martini, $6/mixed drinks). Deffinately check it out.
After going to Aura a few times and hearing a lot of input from our friends. We'd like to say that this club has some great great styling and atmosphere - perfect setting for a chill bar... however it's evolving into more of a dance club like Crush. When we went on Wednesday night it was really laid back - which we liked. On Saturday though, you could hardly move. There were so many people they had to enforce the "one out, one in" rule at the door. It wasn't nearly as classy on Saturday - but if you like to dance or be surrounded by some of west Des Moines' hottest, it's definitely a hot spot.
Aura also has DJs spinning vinyl so that automatically makes it 10x better than other Des Moines bars. They also put on some killer parties and have some decent drink specials like 2 for 1 martinis.
Overall, during the week it looks like a pretty chill bar. But it's definitely hoppin on the weekends, maybe a bit too much sometimes.
